Resource Exploration

There is an increasing need to effectively detect and quantify the presence of mineral, oil and gas signatures remotely, through utilizing airborne (or space-based) sensors. The ability to do so provides geologists the opportunity to obtain geologic information well before they ever set foot in a particular landscape, significantly reducing costs and time associated with complex field explorations.

All objects reflect, absorb, or emit electromagnetic radiation based on their composition, creating a unique pattern called a spectral signature. A hyperspectral sensor simply captures that pattern, allowing for the object’s identification based on its unique signature.

AUG-H’s resource exploration- mineral, oil, gas mapping– service using hyperspectral and multispectral technology provides unique techniques efficiently and accurately survey large and poorly accessible areas for oil, gas and mineral deposits. Leveraging on over two decades of experience and expertise, AUG-H’s sophisticated resource exploration service can distinguish between similar spectral signatures to provide credible results with minimal false detections.

AUG-H’s innovations in hyperspectral technologies significantly outperform commercial hyperspectral detection algorithms, including Anomaly Detection, SAM (Spectral Angle Mapper), MTMF (Mixture-Tuned Matched Filter), Spectral Feature Fitting and Linear Spectral Unmixing.

AUG-H’s key technology advantages include:

  • Capacity to detect/classify/identify materials, directly and indirectly, using endmembers, spectral signatures from a library, or extracted from the image. This provides end users the flexibility to use the most appropriate spectral signature source, depending on the material/application of interest.
  • Ability to reliably distinguish between materials with similar features in spectral signatures.
  • Superior signal strength enhancement algorithms in the data processing phase of hyperspectral mapping – suppression of background signatures (High Signal-to-Noise Ratio) – 30-40% higher than other commercially available products. This allows a better, more accurate and reliable differentiation between material of interest and background (i.e. noise).
  • High accuracy of detection and identification at a user-defined false-alarm rate. AUG-H’s robust Constant False Alarm Rate (CFAR) techniques minimize the probability of false detections.
  • Accurate mineral/hydrocarbon presence probability quantification with degrees of confidence for detection & identification results.
